Projects of work

Sicilian Spring Flower Series

This is a set of artworks inspired by a trip I made to Sicily in 2022 when I walked the 6 week ancient pilgrimage route across the mountains from Palermo to Messina. The pieces are all inspired by the wild flowers and meadows I saw along the route. They are a combination of watercolours and linocut prints.

Perretts Park Allotment Series

This project is based on my time working in the allotments in south Bristol. It currently includes watercolour sketches of plants and wider allotment scenes. I am hoping to create pieces throughout the year to capture the seasonal change and growing cycles. These sketches will inform larger pieces of work using reduction linocut printing.

Greece, farming landscapes and garden plots

I am in the very early stages of creating this project and have started a large acrylic painting of a garden plot from a house I stayed in during a visit to mountainside village of Zagora in Pelion, Greece. I have spent many years researching subsistence farming in Greece and have spent time in Crete, Volos and Kamena Vourla interviewing Greek farmers who remember pre-mechanised farming practices. I have found the people and the landscape a constant source of inspiration and am looking to create pieces that convey the connection between the Greek people, farmed garden plots, and the identity of the household. More to come on this one soon...
